I’ve been a professional actor for 30 years with strong roots in the theatre, performing in seasons with The Oregon Shakespeare Festival, Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, Utah Shakespearean Festival, Portland Center Stage, The Intiman, and many many others. I co-founded the award-winning and wildly successful Third Rail Repertory Theatre in Portland, Oregon, and just this past year became the Founder and Artistic Director of the critically acclaimed Door Number 3 theatre company in Los Angeles.
Since moving to LA in 2013, I’ve been working consistently, guest starring on Modern Family, Criminal Minds, Scandal, Workaholics, and NCIS: Los Angeles, to name a few. I’ve had recurring roles on HBO’s hit series Big Little Lies and Netflix’s Peabody Award-winning American Vandal. Over the years, I’ve been fortunate to work alongside and share the stage and screen with six Academy Award-winning actors and countless Emmy winners.
Tim True - Actor, Coach, and Director | True Acting Coach
Last summer, I directed and co-wrote the Indie drama, Here Awhile, starring Anna Camp (Pitch Perfect series, True Blood), Steven Strait (The Expanse, The Covenant), and Joe Lo Truglio (Brooklyn Nine-Nine, Superbad). I’m currently in development of several feature films and plan to be in pre-production with my next film shortly.
As an acting instructor, I started over 20 years ago as an associate professor teaching acting at the Ivy League Cornell University and began teaching my own curriculum privately two years later in Portland, Oregon. Now, in Los Angeles, I focus my teaching on audition preparation and work with professional actors in person or on webcam in one-on-one settings and also intimate workshops across the country. Actors who work with me have a very high success rate in the audition room and have booked many roles, including feature film leads, large guest stars, recurring roles, and series regulars.

My approach comes from a combination of many methods that I’ve had extensive training in, including Meisner and Stanislavski for Acting, Linklater, and Lessac for Voice, as well as Viewpoints and Laban for Movement. Each and every script offers different challenges and opportunities, and working from such a diverse background has given me an arsenal of tools to work with you from.
I’ve had a broad range of experience in this industry. As an actor with over 30 years of professional experience, I draw on my ongoing work in auditions and on set to give a current perspective on what CDs and Producers are looking for. As a director, I can envision and anticipate the needs and concerns that they have as they work with Casting Directors in assembling their ideal cast. As we prepare for your audition, we'll include all aspects in the work.
